Monument House of Prayer was founded by Drs. Lennard and Claudetta Paschal. The first service was held on May 10, 1988, on a Tuesday night in the pastors’ home. It was there the saints joined together in prayer and received God’s mandate.
On May 22, 1988, God blessed us to move from the Pastors’ home to a beautiful storefront building at 6000 Wilson Boulevard. God moved mightily in the little storefront. This storefront was not just an ordinary place, but an extraordinary place, for God blessed his people there in an extraordinary way.
The first Ordination service was held July 31, 1988. Dr. Louise Henry presided. It was in this ordination service that a woman died and was miraculously brought back to life as the saints banded together in prayer, petitioning God. The hand of Satan waxed greatly against us, but the hand of God proved mightier. Our God is great and He is terrible!
Monument House of Prayer is a house of prayer for all people. The church’s name “Monument” symbolizes a “sold-out” people set aside as monuments unto God—a people unmovable, anchored and rooted in the word of God, enduring as the apple of God’s eye.
Monument House of Prayer was founded in the love and compassion of Jesus Christ. God raised us up a people, who were not a people, bringing us to himself on the wings of an eagle. He lifted us from what seemed hopelessness, to a place of victory and power. God made the places of our wilderness to blossom, and the barren land to be fruitful. He sent rain, where no water was. Out of the void and out of nothing, God always provided for his own.
On October 8, 1989, Monument was blessed to move into her current edifice at 3613 Turton Avenue. As on many times before, the glory of God filled the temple. Rev. Vaughn McLaughlin, Pastor, Word of Faith, presided.
God is indeed a God of providence. He never, ever forgets his promises. In spite of what we see or feel, we have learned to hold firmly to God’s unchanging hands. Our God simply cannot fail us. He is ever so faithful – more faithful than the morning. We are glad to belong to God and to know that the Monument House of Prayer family is an important part of his kingdom plans.
